Active Nation Scottish Cup
In case you dont know we had a visit from the Active Nation Scottish Cup to our home on Thursday, which we still cant quite believe. The Scottish Cup as its better known is the oldest Football Trophy in the world and this year marks it 125th Anniversary. The Scottish Cup final is played in May at Hampden, and last year was won by Rangers. This year the Scottish Cup is sponsored by the Scottish Government in an initative to get Scotland more health and active (thats what were all about to!!)leading up to the Commonwealth Games which are being held in Glasgow in 2014. To promote the initative they decided to have the cup paraded through Scotland, and run competitions throughout Scotland for people to spend a day with the Scottish Cup.
The competition we won was held on Northsound One, and Stephanie put my name forward for it. The first thing i knew about it was yesterday morning when i got a call on my mobile phone when about 3 miles from Dyce on my way to work. I was told by Greigsy on Northsound i had to be home for 2oclock as the cup would be arriving then,to say i was shocked would be an understatement!!. After my boss gave me the afternoon off (there wasnt much work done in the morning either i can tell you i was so excited!!),i drove home and the cup arrived at our house at time we were told. The cup was accompanied by John Kennedy former Celtic player see and Greg McEwan who works for Material Media Company who have been employed by the Scottish Government to promote Active Nation!!
After we spent a while with the Cup on our "mantle piece" we paraded it around the Clerkhill School, and then we took it down to Balmoor Stadium where lots children/adults got there photograph taken for a small donation in aid of Make A Wish (we raised £100!!!) . Its was a brillant day and one we will never forgot. Thanks everyone who made our day special, and especially Steph for putting my name forward for it. Record Breakers
What a great photograph of Ali, Jenny and Caitlin which appeared in the Press and Journal on Thursday!!
Little did we think we when were planning for Monday night that we would set a Scottish Record for the amount of people along to Jogscotland on one night 276 people. Sometimes it really frustrates me the amount of gloom and doom there is written about the Bluetoon, after all its nae that bad a place!! So its great to see the toon making the headlines for the right reason!! When we started Peterhead Jogscotland nearly 3 years ago Roselyn and i sole aim was to get more people in Peterhead more active whilst having fun at the sametime. Even though our/your club has developed amazingly since then, that will always be our aim. Fun, Fitness and Friendship is what we are all about!!
We couldnt do that without the help of all our brillant 20 leaders. If your new to the club this week the smart orange Saucony Jackets that we wear were given to us by our main sponsor RUN4IT in Aberdeen. Each leader has completed the Jogscotland approved course, and are here to help you achieve your goal what ever that may be. Unbelievably we have 5 of our group doing the London Marathon this year which is just fantastic, but we take as much satisfaction from the beginners who have just completed his/her first 3 or 5k, we still think its a fanstatic achievement and gives us great satisfaction.
If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask, however trivial you may think they are. If we dont know the answer Alistair Currie Jogscotland Manager, and his wonderful team in Edinburgh are always willing to help and support us.
For more information on the national network Jogscotland simply click here, for more information on Run4it have a shop in Holburn Street Aberdeen, and offer all jogscotland members a 10% discount on running gear simply click
Run4it will be in Peterhead on Wednesday 3rd March at our special Health Fair evening we are organising, and there will be special discounts on that night, more information will follow in the coming weeks but it promises to be a great night again. See you all on Monday night.

Stuart and Carol Ann Main
Stuart and Carol-Ann Main are an inspiration to all at Peterhead Jogscotland. Stuart joined us not long after we started in 2007. Stuart quit smoking in 2001 after 17 years of being a heavy smoker but soon found he replaced one unhealthy habit with another junk food. Stuart wont mind me saying but his weight ballooned from around 13 stone to a staggering 21 stone and soon found he couldnt even muster enough energy to play football with his kids. Stuart was also born with his left leg shorter than his right. With this rapid weight gain he found he was putting a lot of strain on his left side. Fred Dick a work colleague encouraged Stuart to take up jogging. Stuart was surprised to find that there were a variety of ages and sizes at the group and the gentle progressive walk/jog programme agreed with him. Remarkably Stuart has now lost 5 stone in weight, and we are very proud to have him as a leader at Peterhead Jogscotland.
Carol Ann admits she had never been sporty in her life until she joined the club last April, when she joined the beginners she admits she struggled to do the 30 secs. walk and jog the first night she was so unfit. However with sheer determination and will power she went on and did the Fraserburgh 10k 8 WEEKS later followed by a few more 10kms in the next few Months.
In November last year Stuart and Carol Ann (in little over 6 months of Carol Ann joining us) completed the Fraserburgh Half Marathon, and unbelievable as of yesterday Stuart and Carol Ann will both be taking part in the Virgin London Marathon in April.
Stuart and Carol Ann are what Peterhead Jogscotland is all about, getting more active, improving fitness, having fun, and making new friends. We are really proud of them both, if you see them running round the toon training for the marathon in the coming months give them a blast of your horn to show them your support. It takes a lots of time, miles and dedication to complete a Marathon as Roselyn and i well know.
